poem

 Kind of Hard

Once alive, all you can do

Is that which is possible.

Only God can do the impossible,

Which is all that God can do.

While our proximity to divinity

Is obscured by a cloud of unknowing,

God is limited by everything

Real or even faintly conceivable.

Anything that happens

Was once merely possible.

Everything that happens

Started as an idea that

God had long abandoned.

Those blushing autumn leaves,

The fountain grasses bronzing

In the salmon sky at dawn,

The way it feels when

It finally breaks your heart.

God didn’t do that.

We did that.

Yes, god did the hard part.

But we’re stuck with all the rest.

Even this isn’t easy.
