Abortion doctor murdered in church...
Dr. George Tiller was murdered on Sunday while at his church services. His wife was sang in the choir. It was a beautiful June Sunday morning in Kansas when the alleged gunman, Scott Roeder, entered the holy sanctuary and fired a bullet into Dr. Tiller.
Now, I'm not going to get into the whole abortion debate. I would never presume to judge a woman who chose to end a pregnancy. It isn't an act that I could support personally but, again, I've never been in that situation. Dr. Tiller was notorious for being one of the few abortion doctors in the United States who performed abortions on viable fetuses (20-24 weeks). He avered that he did it only in situations where the mother's life was in danger or in cases where prenatal diagnostic tests revealed a severe fetal defect (anencephaly, hypoplastic left ventricle syndrome, etc) often associated with early infant death. Whatever the case may be, whatever your own moral inclination, this is a despicable crime; made more despicable by the fact that it was committed under the false banner of righteousness. No Christian ought to be proud of Scott Roeder. The death of George Tiller was an act of pure evil. I would even go as far as calling it an act of domestic terrorism.

Ditto. I'm pretty darned pro-life, but would NEVER condone such a horrific act, or ANY violence for that matter. When will these crazies learn that rather than furthering their cause, they are destroying it?
My Yellow Pages has the names of 3 clinics in my state that will do abortions to 24 weeks. What Tiller did was the ones beyond that, for the late-discovered fetal defect, for the girl who hid her pregnancy six or seven months months. Not for the woman whose life was in danger - none of the women in the 2008 data set fit that category.
Killing Tiller was murder, terrorism, and I shudder to see people trying to use that as a political tool in my country.
Murder, assassination...end result the same. How cowardly, shooting an unarmed man in a supposedly safe haven.
I want abortion to be legal (aka safe) but rare. I'm not sure abortion opponents recognize the way to reduce abortion is to reduce unwanted pregnancies. Period. Teen sex ed. Easier availability of contraception. More methods that rely less on the user actively choosing to continue the method (OCPs) versus passive means (IUDs).
Just as there are plenty of underground midwives providing home deliveries, there are plenty of folks able to do underground abortions...
OB-Gyn ramblings from a liberal gyn in conservative fly-over country - who has far too many 13 & 14 year olds knocked up in her clinic...
Well said, Buckeye. I wish none were needed, but then I wish birth defects (anencephaly, etc) never occurred either.
Dr. Tiller helped so many women -- may he rest in peace.
Funny how Dr. Tiller never did any GYN training, in fact his Board Certification was in "Family Practice".. I'm as against Murder as the next guy, but Dr. Tiller might as well have worn a bullseye on his back, I mean this guy was a P-R-I-C-K with a capital "ick".. I know, Abortion's legal, just like Slavery used to be, and his killer will likely pay the ultimate price just as John Brown did in 1860...
Roeder shot Tiller outside of the church, not in the sanctuary.
I believe it was very wrong for Roeder to murder Tiller & is NOT a way to solve problems - it only creates more. However, I do find it ironic that those who are making a big deal about this are the ones who support the murder of unborn babies.
The people making a "big deal" about the murder of Dr Tiller come from the entire spectrum of the abortion debate. I don't see any irony; pro-lifers are just as appalled.
