poem

 Chicken and Egg

What comes first—

God or the desire

For something divine

Feast or the hunger

Love or stark shivering alone

The omnipotent father or the unbegotten son,

One of them saying

Let there be light,

The rest is darkness

The other saying forgiveness,

He knows not what he does

Just assigning names

To the timeless eternity

It’s a chicken and egg thing

The empty hole in our hearts

That gives us something to fill

This right now

(I had never noticed before)

Is the hinge

Between the lover

And the loved

This right here

Is the portal through

Which god must pass

To get to the place where

Even the gods are judged
