poem

 Black Hole Sonnet

Your heart is a star of immeasurable

Mass and infinite density

You’ve drawn into your depths

All matter— inanimate and flesh

And all the light of the universe

Save a single luminous beam.

I get as close as I can

Without falling all the way in

Time slows down near the edge

As I spiral around in ever tighter orbits

Until time seems to nearly stop—

Always our best chance to make it last

But in this moment just before time dies

There's only enough space for one of us
